ROGER RESSMEYER NAMED PACA PRESIDENT

May 8, 2006 – SEATTLE – The Picture Archive Council of America (PACA) has named Roger Ressmeyer as President for a two-year term. During the annual meeting held in Chicago April 6 – 8, Ressmeyer accepted the presidency, stating that “fairness and transparency” amongst PACA members and with their clients and photographers was high on his list of priorities during his presidency.
Roger Ressmeyer is well equipped to understand the many facets of the stock photography industry. As Founder of the Starlight Photo Agency, Roger built his business over a 14 year period, and in July of 1995, Corbis purchased his company as their first major acquisition.
Past positions Roger has held include 10 years on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), and senior leadership roles for both the Corbis Corporation and Getty Images. Ressmeyer has also authored many white papers surrounding licensing, copyright materials, and intellectual property concerns.
As Vice President of Strategy & Corporate Development for Getty Images – the world’s leading provider of imagery, film and digital services – Roger was instrumental in developing an Image Partner program, and created the Photographer’s Choice brand. In 2001 Roger represented the company in negotiating a new artist contract with representatives from the Stock Artist Alliance (SAA).
Having lived and breathed the working photographer’s world, Roger gained his experience as a National Geographic and Time/Life assignment photographer. He is a respected industry leader who has successfully forged many different paths – that of photographer’s rights advocate, digital imaging pioneer, and as a senior leader at the two top stock house giants.
As President of PACA – a powerful group comprised of Who’s Who in the photo industry, including large photo archives and individual photographers specializing in direct stock distribution – Roger will oversee the organizations mission “To foster and protect the interests of the picture archive community through advocacy, education and communication.” While continuing to lead that drive, Ressmeyer provides PACA members with an amazing array of resources and support.
