INDEX STOCK IMAGERY REPRESENTS RIGHTS MANAGED IMAGERY THROUGH MEDIA BAKERY

INDEX STOCK IMAGERY REPRESENTS RIGHTS MANAGED IMAGERY THROUGH MEDIA BAKERY
New York, February, 2006 – Index Stock Imagery, www.indexstock.com, is pleased to announce that a selected portion of its collection of Rights Managed and Royalty Free images will be distributed through Media Bakery, www.mediabakery.com. The distributed images will include both photography and illustration, and cover advertising-related subjects such as high tech, business, lifestyle, sports, travel, health and concepts. Index will also allow Media Bakery to distribute part of its outstanding editorial collection, including local culture, events, history, vintage, education, fine art, and nature images.

Index’s library includes the combined libraries of twelve stock agencies it has acquired since 1991. These libraries have been expanded further by contributions from many independent illustrators, photographers, and from various corporate and museum collections. “We were the first to offer digital imagery to the commercial, graphic design, and publishing industries, and we continue to expand our unique collection. It is a pleasure to make our images available through an excellent new portal, such as Media Bakery,” offers Dan Russelman, President of Index Stock Imagery.

“As always, Media Bakery has a commitment to representing quality collections within its offerings. The recent addition of the Index Stock Rights Managed collection is the first step towards a more diverse offering for customers. Many clients have a need for specific imagery, often hard to find in generalized Royalty Free libraries. With the addition of Rights Managed imagery at Media Bakery, image seekers will be able to find more specific images. It's a continuing request from our clients and as many of our customers already know, we listen and quickly respond to customer requests,” says Chad Newell, Chief Executive Officer of Media Bakery. “Index Stock is the latest collection to join the Media Bakery family of products.”

Living In Harmony

Palmi Einarsson

The human race inhabits a very small planet. We realize this more ever day as we process news of global warming, melting glacier ice caps and deforestation. Palmi Einarsson was born in Reykjavik, Iceland, and grew up on a farm in the countryside. His proximity to and love for the beauty of nature, fishing and horses has led his crusade with his camera against the destruction of the land and the life that inhabits it. As Palmi states, “Through my work with the camera, I attempt to preserve the beauty of the world we live in.”

Believing that nature is a very sensitive ecosystem that needs to be preserved, Einarsson offers, “I am convinced that man and nature can live in harmony.” He laments that many cases of destruction have left nature beyond repair, highlighting the Karahnjukar Power Station in Iceland, where a large land mass will be flooded with water to sell power to an aluminum factory, potentially throwing off balance a sensitive ecosystem and destroying all the animal inhabitants. “I believe we are altering nature, and no one knows what the long term effect will be,” adds Einarsson.

In his mission to open people’s eyes, he has created a brilliant series of images on “Patching Up Nature.” One beautiful concept is an image of a shining leafy plant with delicate pink flowers, nesting lightly on a natural wood background. There is a darning needle and pink yarn in the foreground attached to threads holding the leaves together. The image is lovely to look at but it makes a powerful statement about the ephemeral nature of the plant.

As an Index Stock artist, Palmi is highlighted as part of the “Million Image Celebration,” with three nature images in the first ten to pass the million image mark in the online collection. In the “Flying Arctic Tern” (Image # 1000007) and “The House Wren” (Image # 1000004), he has captured two of the animals that struggle to stay alive in the delicate balance. His whimsical image (#1000002) of the close up of an “Icelandic Horse” adds charm to the collection.

Passion and Knowledge

Adrian Mueller

There is nothing average about Adrian Mueller. His creativity is matched only by his knowledge and experience, along with an intuitive perception of the power of imagery. Adrian breaks down cultural barriers by speaking several languages, with fluency in German, English, French, and a working knowledge of Italian and Spanish. Having worked in Thailand, Indonesia, The United Arab Emirates, Cuba, Panama, Brazil, Peru, India and Bangladesh, he has lived in Switzerland, Japan and the US. He credits his Japanese wife with the “sincere compassion, wit and kindness” to affect a “major impact in my work and life.”

His own words best express the emotions he feels and goals he seeks when photographing people around the world:

“My passion is to be surprised everyday by new people, sounds, tastes and customs. When I'm working on travel or documentary assignments, I'm always amazed how open and hospitable people are as soon as they realize someone is genuinely interested in them. I like the feeling of being invited to be part of someone's life for a brief moment, knowing that we will remember each other, but most likely not meet again. This motivates me to faithfully capture what I see and to tell a story that is dignified, whether it's beautiful or sad.

I like the whimsical, unexpected angles that convey depth, and allow for the viewer to feel part of the image, rather than just remaining an onlooker. I strive to capture quiet but powerful images, that will motivate a viewer to be part of other people's life's. Before I shoot what's in front of me I try to look inside first. I want to determine if I have preconceived notions. If so, I try to turn them off. I hope that my photos create the same effect when viewed.”

Adrian’s visit to Bangladesh, exemplifies these feelings, as he documented the story of a frightened teen from a remote village, being sent away to work as a maid in the city. As Adrian’s van was returning to Dhaka, a local family brought their thirteen year old daughter to ride along, experiencing a traumatic send off and final goodbye. “The fear of the unknown and her anxiety at being separated from her family and village was written all over her face. She cried hysterically. She would have to live with and work for strangers under harsh conditions.” Adrian experienced the fear and sadness along with her, as she pressed her face against the window in agony. It was an extremely emotional story for him to capture, and he felt privileged to document this event in her life.

Adrian has been honored by Index Stock Imagery as one of the artists in the recent “Million Image Celebration,” featuring the first ten online photographs to pass the million image mark in Index’s collection. He has two of those images from his ongoing series of Tokyo, illustrating the contrast of quiet and busy spaces, with photos of an empty subway car and the constant movement of a Tokyo street. (#1000010)
