INDEX STOCK IMAGERY LAUNCHES ITS MILLIONTH IMAGE
New York, November 2005 – Index Stock Imagery, http://www.indexstock.com, The Independent Choice for Your Imagination, is pleased to have grown its quality image collection to over one million photographs and illustrations, all available online. 1,700 contributing artists and collections have built the library. It includes more than 200,000 Royalty Free images and more than 20,000 illustrations. The subject matter is broad and deep, covering such areas as business, families, technology, sports, history and fine art, animals, concepts, food, health & beauty, lifestyle, nature, and travel.
The image collection has grown by more than 100,000 in the past ten months, and by more than 330,000 since January 2004. (See growth chart, below.) Index’s one-millionth image is proudly credited to one of the agency’s long-standing contributors, Russell Burden. Russell is a well-known nature and wildlife shooter, with an additional focus on portraits, weddings, and pets. He leads photo tours to various parts of the country and teaches composition, lighting, and “how to look for a great photo.” Russell is a frequent contributor to Petersen's Photographic magazine—he just won the Backyard Habitat Division—and was Highly Honored in the Digital Imaging Division of Nature's Best Magazine International contest.
According to Russell: “The shot you chose of my son was made as I saw him develop an interest in the garden hose. He's actually ‘watering’ a newly planted dwarf maple in our backyard. My wife and I dressed him in primary colors that would contrast against the background, which is out of focus grass. I shot the image with a 200mm lens wide open, to make sure the background would be soft. I used fill flash to add light to the shadow side of his face. The fact that he stuck out his tongue, and the drop of water appeared, was serendipitous and lasted an instant when I clicked the shutter and captured the moment.”
Also fun are Angelo Cavalli’s ‘one millionth and one’ image of a beautiful Tibetan scene with monks in bright red robes, and Palmi Einarsson’s ‘one millionth and two’ image of an adorable pony’s eye peaking out from his mane, in close-up perspective. “We are proud of all these images,” says Dan Russelman, President of Index, “and are excited about the continuing response and talent of our contributing artists.”
Index hit this milestone at the same time that it reached a different one—the Company has now been in business for fourteen years. To help celebrate Index Stock’s ever-expanding collection and the company’s fourteen-year anniversary, Index is giving a 2006 wall calendar of its “million zone” images to anyone who licenses an image during our celebration period.
