Photographer: Eric Kamp

I became interested in photography when I was 20 years old because some friends were photographers and the darkroom seemed interesting. Little did I know that it would become an overriding passion when I took my first course. I knew after two weeks that this is what I wanted to do.

I became a commercial, editorial and fine art photographer for over 20 years. My work has appeared in books, annual reports, brochures, advertisements and magazines such as Forbes, Business Week, and U.S. News and World Report. Currently, I work only as a stock photographer and am represented by two stock photo agencies who distribute my conceptual still-lifes around the world.

I work both in the studio and on location doing still-life and location project work. The studio is where I can create worlds or ideas and give my work a look that can not be achieved on location. It's the place where my vision can be created as opposed to finding images. But both have their place in my life.
Today I work mostly with 4X5 in the studio for the control of the image that the camera brings. I check my exposures and composition heavily with Polaroid films while in the studio. I view each Polaroid as a sketch before a final drawing. I find that there is a different look to the picture than actually looking through the viewfinder. My studio work is all lit with strobes which I gel to get the colors I want the final picture to have.

I like the challenge of translating everyday objects into conceptual pictures that can be used for a variety of clients and can also be seen in a completely different way as fine art.
